Lambs 19 Irish Exiles 6
My phone kept trying to tell me that the weather was going to get better on Sunday afternoon but unfortunately it is a piece of junk and the weather was indeed absolutely atrocious. We were graced with snow at times as well as my personal favourite really bloody freezing horizontal driving rain.
So not the ideal conditions for a bit of fast paced open running rugby! Well the first half certainly bore that out. It wasn't that the Lambs didn't try to play wide and expansive rugby, however they were over anxious, trying far too hard and nothing but nothing seemed to come off, the boys defended well but lots of unforced errors, knock ons and penalties kept the Irish in the game and gave them four shots at goal. They converted two to take a six nil lead at half time.
The Chairman at this stage wasn't a particularly happy chap, bloody freezing, wet, no whisky Mac to keep him warm and the rugby not going great!
However thankfully the second half was a complete turnaround! The boys switched on a little, didn't try to push things too far and started to put some patterns together. As ever I can't actually remember who scored (it was of course a team effort), but we ran in three very good and well structured tries to take victory by thirteen points.
This was certainly not a complete performance but once again, like the game against the Welsh, there were some encouraging signs.
I am very much looking forward to seeing the boys make even more progress on the 18th when we are back up to Wales to face the Boys Clubs!
